Palm Springs was a blast. It was both exhausting and very relaxing since we walked miles and miles amongst the shops, galleries, and the art festival going on there and then usually retired to the jacuzzi afterwards, which we did probably about six or seven times and was particularly lovely in the evening. I highly recommend the Pepper Tree Inn if you ever go. It's at one end of the main drag and is very convenient on top of being a beautiful, comfortable, and small hotel with a 24-hour pool and spa area and a spectacular view. And speaking of which, this is what it looked like just outside our room every day.
The pool and jacuzzi area is just below the photo line there.
We have tons of pictures. I'll get around to posting more later. Palm Springs is perfect for getting out of town to do absolutely nothing. It's not the most exciting town on earth and that's exactly what we wanted.
They have an aerial tram there that takes you a few thousand feet up the mountain for amazing views of the surrounding area. Well, that's what we heard, anyway. We went up the road to see it (about 2000 feet up) but my fear of heights won the day and I decided it would a "next time" kinda thing. I'm a pussy, I know.
Overall, Lindsey and I had a fantastic weekend.

TODAY IS RICK DAY!
Yes, I turn 21 today. Oops, sorry...I mean 31. Christ, I'm gettin' old! But I'm happy and grateful to make it into my 30s.
Yesterday was Thanksgiving. I spent the day at Lindsey's family's place out in I don't know where...Calabasas, maybe? Out there. FAR. Anyway...it was a great day. Her family's very welcoming of me and the fact that they like me as much as they do makes me feel closer to her. I managed not to over eat there, probably the first Thanksgiving ever that that's happened, and had a really great time playing basketball (which I'm feeling today) and video games with the family.
Yesterday was also our first anniversary. So, that made it an even better day. I had a get-together the night before with some friends and after they left in the wee hours of the morning Lindsey and I exchanged anniversary presents. Linds also went ahead and gave me my birthday presents, which I didn't argue about. She got me:
-the 2005 Incredibles calendar
-The Art of The Incredibles book, a magnificent collection
-The Godfather Returns, a sequel to the classic novel written by another writer
-a hujungous jar of candy filled with Gobstoppers and Jolly Ranchers, a couple of my
faves
And for our anniversary, she made the coolest photo memory book of our year together. It's better than all the other stuff combined.
I really love and appreciate this girl. You hear me, Linds? I love ya!
Today, we're heading out to Palm Springs for the weekend for some much needed gettin' away from LA time.
Thanks to everyone who have already given their birthday wishes. The check's in the mail.

I love it when news headlines sound completely inappropriate. It's even better when the subject is scientific because you know the guy who wrote the article had no idea what the hell he was writing when he wrote the headline. But then again, maybe this is a science guy's way of letting some steam go.
Anyway...here's the best headline you'll read all week:
BLACK HOLES FORMED QUICKLY AFTER BIG BANG
Take that, China!

UPON FURTHER REVIEW...
You know, I think we're gonna be okay if this map comparison is any indication.
Oh, wait. We're still screwed.

We just started a new Yahoo group for fans of Dr. Tran and all things Lone Sausage. Nothing much going on yet but this will be the place to find out about Dr. Tran happenings and news and to interact with the creators. (Hey! I'm one of those guys!) Stop on by and take a ride...on another Ara-a-a-bian n-i-i-i-ght!!! Sorry--I mean, go here.

I'll play Shimmy Shimmy Ya and Brooklyn Zoo a few times for you today, Dirty. Rest in peace. Don't get caught collecting multiple welfare checks in the afterlife.

The Daily Rick now has comments. Isn't that convenient, the two of you who read this?
And now, Hellboy in Prague.

My buddy Ben Caldwell is in town so he joined us for our usual Thursday night drawing fiasco at Priscilla's coffee shop. Ben's a ridiculously talented cartoonist and everyone around was adrool at his latest batch of drawings. We may be hitting a bar tonight to spend some more time with the guy.
I couldn't sleep anymore after Linds left so I got up to check the news on Fark. Fark's a site one of Lindsey's cousins turned me on to where people who visit can submit weird or cool or breaking news and the guy who runs the site chooses which news bits actually get posted on the website. The point is to make the headline funny or clever. I'm sure he gets hundreds of them a day so it seems like quite an honor to make the list. Well, after about 10 tries, I finally made it with this headline:
New Who album may appear next spring. Deaf, dumb and blind kids indifferent
I was a little groggy when I woke up but this definitely woke me up. I am now energized. Oh, and if you don't get the headline joke, then you probably don't know who The Who is either.

A few nights ago, I had a dream that I was saving penguins from slave labor. They were all holed up in some warehouse and, under cover of darkness, I was determined to get 'em out of there one by one like some penguin Moses. At some point, I heard what I assumed were the slavemasters coming my way, so I grabbed an arm full of penguins and jumped into my truck. (I, of course, do not own a truck.) As I sat trying to start the engine, a guy with a shotgun comes into the passenger side window. He aims and shoots me right in the face. Immediately, I woke up incredibly upset but somewhat excited that I was doing something good for somebody else, even if they were penguins.
I think that's why I'm currently mildly obsessed with this Any Soldier website. It's a site where soldiers out in the shit post stuff they need and cannot obtain. You can send them this stuff and you can ever just send them letters. There are thousands of guys in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting to keep our fat American asses safe. The least we could do is send them toothpaste. I found a National Guard unit in Khandahar requesting art supplies and cds and I have chosen to adopt them. I've got loads of this stuff just sitting around the house so I might as well help out. You should, too.
The Entity is on TV right now. It's a horror movie from the early 80s about a ghost beating up and raping a woman played by Barbara Hershey. It's twenty past nine in the morning and they're showing ghosts raping people on TV. I think we can all agree that it's far too early for ghost rape. I think it was John F. Kennedy who said, "There's a time and place for ghost rape and breakfast time is not it. And we should go to the moon not because it is easy, but because it is hard. And also, there are no rape ghosts on the moon."

BLACK WEDNESDAY
I started yesterday feeling enthusiastic and energized by the democratic process. I spent a couple of hours going over all the propositions being contested and I was eager to mark a ballot for the good guys. I went to sleep somewhat dejected but optimistic. And now, I wake up to Kerry and Edwards giving concession speeches and four more years of an incompetent, corporate-run White House.
I look at the little "I Voted" sticker that I received at the polling place and I wonder, "Was it worth it?" Sure. Some good California measures passed, including one for stem cell research funding. This state always seemed like its own country anyway and our Governor says he's a Republican but he doesn't act like one so I'll take what I can get.
But for the counry,it truly is a sad day. I waited four years for Bush to prove my vote wrong and that didn't happen. I'll wait again. What the hell choice do I have?
If the new comic book shipment gets cancelled I may have to shoot someone.

It's Election Day! Exercise....GO VOTE!!!

Halloween was a blast. We partied into the night at my friend Patrick's house on Saturday. I'm getting the hang of not drinking at social functions although I'm still not quite used to how annoying drunks can be when I'm sober. (Was I ever this annoying? Probably.) Since I'm allergic to couples dressing in a theme (gross!), here are Lindsey and I in our very different costumes.
I'm rapper du jour Lil Jon.
Lindsey looking adorable as SNL's Mary Catherine Gallagher.
YAYEAH! These are pre-party pics. We have several hundred thousand photos from the party, but I'll spare you, the two people who read this thing.
Yesterday, we spent our Halloween just being lazy, watching all the Halloween-themed documentaries on the History Channel. We ended the evening by watching Bram Stoker's Dracula. Lindsey turned in around midnight and I promptly fell asleep on the couch.
